Thematic Approach
By choosing different themes based on children’s daily experience, we design a series of integrated and meaningful learning activities within a given topic by adopting a spiral curriculum, whereby children can connect what they learn to their real-life and learn gradually in accordance with their development at different ages through their participation in different activities.
Inquiry-based Approach
In response to the learning interests of our children, a three-to-four weeks project study is conducted every semester. An inquiry-based approach emphasizes finding answers through exploration, investigation, and problem-solving. With the application of an integrated curriculum and life-wide small group learning, interactions between teachers and students as well as parent and child can be promoted. Children can enrich their life experiences and widen their scope of thinking through learning-by-doing.
High Scope Approach
In the High Scope Approach, the learning process of “plan-do-review” promotes children’s active learning ability. Particularly, our children at an early age can set up goals, follow through in a planned way and reflect on their own work and discoveries. Meanwhile, it facilitates children to nurture the sentiments to appreciate themselves and others.
Medium of Instruction
Cantonese is the major medium of instruction, English, and Mandarin as supplements.
Assessment
With the use of teaching aids and learning activities, we observe and evaluate children’s learning progress in the form of theme-based continuous assessment. Children’s assessment sheets are issued regularly. Other records such as observational reports, artwork analysis, English assessment sheets, and project learning reports together with summative assessment reports are distributed twice a year which summarize our children’s overall learning development. All these reports are well documented in the children’s learning portfolio.
